Arsenal are reportedly set to open talks over a new deal for Matteo Guendouzi at the end of the season as the Frenchman continues to impress Mikel Arteta – but Gunners fans are not particularly happy at the news on Twitter.
Guendouzi, 20, has been a regular member of the Arsenal side since Unai Emery plucked him from French club Lorient in the summer of 2018 for a fee of just £7million (TalkSPORT). Even Guendouzi would not have dreamt of a better start.
Indeed, in just 18 months at the club, Guendouzi has already clocked up 77 appearances in all competitions for the north London club. His form has been so good, that he has been called up to France’s senior side – but is yet to win a cap.
Under Arteta, Guendouzi has been in and out of the side – playing in five of the seven Premier League games under the Spaniard. He has started twice, come on as a substitute in three – and remained an unused sub on two occasions.
Despite that lack of regular game time, Football London are claiming that Guendouzi will be offered significantly improved terms after the season is finished – in order to extend his contract which expires in the summer of 2022.
Arsenal fans reacted to the reported news that The Gunners will begin negotiations over a new deal for Guendouzi, but they are hardly impressed. Many feel he is “overrated”, while one supporter thinks he is “useless” and urged Arsenal to “sell him”.

Arsenal creating another Jenkinson- an overpaid player who can only be sold for a nominal fee due to high wages. Guendouzi cannot be a starter in any current top 9 team. He is only rated by some Arsenal fans
Does he offer assist or goal threat? NO
Can you trust him as a DM? NO
