Arsenal fans react as club reportedly interested in signing Manuel Akanji

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji this summer and are in ‘concrete talks’ to land the impressive centre-back – and Gunners fans have responded on Twitter.

German outlet Fussball Transfers have claimed that Arsenal have opened talks to sign 24-year-old Akanji, with initial contact made in January over a potential summer move. Akanji has impressed for Dortmund, despite almost joining PSG.

Indeed, Akanji was on the verge of a move to PSG last summer with Thomas Tuchel looking to raid his old side. But PSG chose to sign Abdou Diallo instead, meaning 22-time Switzerland international Akanji had to remain at Dortmund.

Despite that difficult situation, Akanji has since starred for Dortmund – clocking up 34 appearances in all competitions. Indeed, he helped Dortmund ease to a 4-0 derby win over Schalke last weekend, as the Bundesliga returned to action.

The report states that Dortmund director of football Michael Zorc would be willing to sell Akanji for a fee in the region of £22.3million and £27million. Arsenal are still said to be interested despite starting talks in January.

Arsenal supporters have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that Granit Xhaka’s national teammate could be on his way to the Emirates, and fans have differin opinions over whether he would be a good signing.

Some think “he would be amazing”, while another fan described Akanji as “another Mustafi”.
