Arsenal fans react as club linked with Juventus defender Merih Demiral

Arsenal are reportedly interested in splashing £34million to sign Juventus centre-back Merih Demiral ahead of the January transfer window – and Gunners fans have responded on Twitter by urhing their club to sign him.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato have claimed that Arsenal are willing to meet Juventus’ asking price of £34million, with Turkey international Demiral managing just one appearance for Maurizio Sarri’s side since joining from Sassuolo in the summer.

Juve also brought in Matthijs de Ligt in the summer from Ajax, combining him with Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Daniele Rugani. It makes former Alanyaspor and Fenerbahce man Demiral fifth-choice.

Demiral has been on an intriguing career path so far. Starting at Fenerbahce, the 21-year-old moved to Portugal as a teenager to join Sporting Lisbon. A return to Turkey with Alanyaspor was next, before Italy and Sassuolo came calling.

Just a handful of appearances with Sassuolo – 14 in total – saw Sassuolo activate a permanent deal for him but days later Juventus splashed out to bring him to Turin. However, he is way down the pecking order.

Demiral has not played for Juve since making a political gesture while on international duty – even though sporting director Pavel Nedved denied Juve having any problem with it. Arsenal fans reacted to the link, and want him signed.
