Arsenal fans react as club could reportedly sign Roma player in swap deal

Arsenal have reportedly made contact with the agent of AS Roma midfielder Amadou Diawara and could include Lucas Torreira in a deal for the African star, but face competition from Tottenham – and Gunners fans have responded on Twitter.

With less than a week left to go in the transfer window, Arsenal are still without any midfield additions other than the re-signing of Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid on loan. The defeat to Liverpool on Monday highlighted the need for midfielders.

The Gunners continue to be linked with Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey but Italian newspaper Il Messaggero have claimed that Arsenal are now in contact with Diawara’s agent. The 23-year-old impressed since joining the club last summer.

The report states both Arsenal and Tottenham have opened talks with Diawara’s agent over a move, and the report states that Arsenal could include Uruguayan midfielder Torreira in a swap deal to sign £19million signing (Goal) Diawara.

Torreira continues to be linked with the exit door, as Torino rival Atletico Madrid for his signature. But a move for Diawara – swapping him for Torreira – would kill two birds with one stone, and save some cash for other transfers.

Arsenal supporters have responded on Twitter to the reported news that their club could secure a swap deal for Diawara – with Torreira going the other way, and it is largely a mixed response. Some think he is a good signing, while others are not so sure.
