Arsenal have confirmed on their academy’s Twitter page that 17-year-old playmaker Marcelo Flores has signed professional terms for the first time – and Gunners fans have responded on Twitter to the news about their talented Mexican.
Flores, 17, joined Arsenal in 2019 from League One side Ipswich Town on a scholarship – and has continued to turn heads with his performances for the Under-18 side since. Against Crystal Palace last September, he scored two goals in a 3-2 win.
The attacking midfielder, who can play on either flank or behind the striker, now has eight appearances for Arsenal’s Under-18’s to his name – clocking up six outings in the Under-18 Premier League and playing twice in the FA Youth Cup.
Flores has also caught the admiring glances of his country, after being called up by Mexico’s Under-18 side. Now, the Gunners have confirmed on Twitter that Flores has signed professional terms for the first time – posing alongside Per Mertesacker.
Despite still being just 17, Flores will now be looking to become a regular in the Under-18 side and should be capable of doing that following his brace against the Eagles. He could feature against Brighton on October 17 at London Colney.
Flores will be buoyed by a number of Arsenal products breaking into the senior side including Bukayo Saka, Eddie Nketiah, Joe Willock, Emile Smith-Rowe and more. Gunners fans responded on Twitter to the news of a new deal for Flores.
