Arsenal fans react as club confirm exit of 26-year-old

Arsenal have allowed Deyan Iliev to head out on loan for the 2021/22 campaign. He has joined Slovakian Super League outfit SKF Sered on a season-long arrangement.

Last season, Iliev was on loan with Shrewsbury Town in League One. He was, however, on loan with the Slovakian outfit during the season previous.

At 26, Iliev’s days at Arsenal do look to be numbered. He will be out of contract in the summer of 2022 and looks highly unlikely to earn an extension.

The Macedonian stopper has very few first-team appearances to his name. He made just three appearances for Salop last season, keeping one clean sheet.

The French football crisis Celtic can capitalise on

Most of the football Iliev has played has come for the under-23s but given his age, that ship has now sailed.

This latest loan move could earn him a permanent deal, given his previous affiliation with SKF Sered.

The goalkeeper has been called up to the North Macedonia ranks previously, although he’s yet to make his first-team debut.

He will hope that impressing in Slovakia once more will help him earn a debut cap for his country.

Mixed reactions as Iliev departs Arsenal

There have been some mixed comments regarding the Macedonian player’s departure. Some feel he should be playing in the first-team by now, whilst others think letting him go is the right thing.

It does seem somewhat weird that he hasn’t at least been given a chance to prove himself during his time at the Emirates Stadium.

Now, his days do look numbered and perhaps he’s served his time at Arsenal and will be released next summer.

Following his departure, supporters have been reacting and some fans hope the team doesn’t live to regret not giving him a chance to impress.
