Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has clapped back at Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke on Twitter, after he claimed the star only left for money.

In an interview with a German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung, Watzke said he felt the Gabon international would be ‘sad’ watching the Champions League on TV.

He said: “Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who plays great at Arsenal, will probably be warm-hearted when he looks at his bank account, but on Wednesdays he will be saddened when he has to watch the Champions League on television.”

Aubameyang, who joined the Gunners in a £56 million deal in January 2018 (BBC Sport), caught wind of the comments and took to Twitter to hit back at Watzke.

He wrote: “Better for you I never talk about why I really left Dortmund Mr Watzke. You are such a clown. I remember that time you said we never gonna sell Ousmane [Dembele], then you saw more than £100m, you were the first to take that money.

“Don’t talk about money please. Leave me alone please.”

Aubameyang, who is the club’s second-highest earner on £200,000-a-week (Spotrac), has been a revelation for Arsenal since joining, scoring 49 goals in just 73 appearances.
