Anthony Taylor has been appointed as the man in the middle for the FA Cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea at Wembley – and Gunners fans have reacted on Twitter to the selection, with many disappointed.
The Gunners booked their place in the FA Cup final after a stunning 2-0 win over Manchester City which saw captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang notched twice against Pep Guardiola’s side in a surprise result.
They take on Chelsea, who cruised past an in-form Manchester United with a 3-1 win last time out. It is a repeat of the 2019 Europa League final, which saw Chelsea beat the Gunners 4-1 – largely thanks to Eden Hazard.
The FA announced on their website that 41-year-old Taylor would take charge of his second FA Cup final, his first being the 2017 final which Arsenal won – including Taylor’s decision to allow Alexis Sanchez’s early goal.

This season, Taylor has taken charge of four Arsenal matches – three in the Premier League and the other being the 1-0 win over Leeds United. From the three league games, Arsenal have secured just one point from nine.
Indeed, Taylor has given three penalties against Arsenal in each of the three league games – which were a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool, a 2-2 draw against Watford and then most recently, the 3-0 loss to Manchester City.
The latter was his last Arsenal match in which he showed David Luiz a red card. With that still fresh in the memory, Arsenal fans reacted on Twitter to the news that Taylor would referee the FA Cup final on August 1.
