Arsenal fans react as 25-year-old linked with club outside of Europe

Lucas Torreira is reportedly attracting interest from Argentine side Boca Juniors ahead of the summer window – and Arsenal fans are seemingly keen to see their club cash in on the Uruguay international in the coming weeks.

Torreira, 25, joined Arsenal three years ago and was a crucial member of the side during his first two seasons – clocking up 89 appearances throughout 2018-19 and 2019-20. But Mikel Arteta chose to let him go last summer.

Indeed, Arteta sanctioned the loan exit of Torreira to Atletico Madrid in a move that saw Thomas Partey go the other way. The Gunners are still well-stocked in the middle of the park, even if Mo Elneny does not remain this summer.

Along with Elneny and Partey, Granit Xhaka, Dani Ceballos, Joe Willock and even Ainsley Maitland-Niles remain options in central midfield. The chances of Torreira having a future at Arsenal seems unlikely.

That is worsened by his lack of game time in Spain. Clocking up 22 appearances for Atleti, he has only started five of those matches. ESPN claim that Boca, a club Torreira has supported since he was a child, are interested.

Arsenal fans reacted to the news that Torreira is a target for the club his entire family is said to support, and many are keen to finally wave goodbye – who has two years remaining on his £75,000-a-week contract (Spotrac).

Boca currently sit in sixth place in their half of the Argentine Premier Division.
