Arsenal fans rave about Reiss Nelson’s rare first-team appearance in Dundalk win

Arsenal comfortably dispatched with Irish outfit Dundalk in the Europa League last night, winning 3-0 after goals from Eddie Nketiah, Joe Willock and Nicolas Pepe.

It was a game in which Mikel Arteta gave first-team opportunities to a host of fringe players, including one he admitted earlier this week he had planned to send out on loan.

Speaking to the press this week, the Arsenal boss confirmed that the Gunners were looking to send winger Reiss Nelson out on loan after the arrival of Willian in attack.

However, the youngster turned down the move, deciding to fight for his place at The Emirates.

“We had a few plans in mind with Reiss,” Arteta was quoted by The Sun. “One of them was to send him on loan to get more minutes because of the competition we have up front.

“The reality is he has been really good in training. He wants to stay here. He wants to fight for his place.”

Based on his performance last night, and the reaction of Arsenal fans, he is certainly up for the fight.

Nelson was one of Arsenal’s stand out performers on the night, showcasing some incredible dribbling ability and vision to surely give Arteta something to think about regarding the weekend clash with Manchester United.

The 20-year-old has yet to even feature on the bench for a Premier League game this season, something that is hard to believe considering his display last night.

For some Arsenal fans, they feel it is about time Nelson got his chance in the top-flight to finally try and prove he is ready for a more prominent role in the Arsenal team.
