Arsenal fans rave about Kieran Tierney despite shock defeat to Brentford
Newly-promoted Brentford tore up the script in the first Premier League match of the season – beating Arsenal 2-0. Mikel Arteta started new signings Ben White and Albert Lokonga but it was not enough. Despite the defeat to Brentford away from home, Arsenal fans have praised Kieran Tierney.
Mikel Arteta’s selection coming into the game was a surprise. Folarin Balogun was handed his first Premier League start, with Eddie Nketiah, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette unavailable. Gabriel Martinelli also started, despite only just returning from the Olympics.
What are Arsenal fans saying about Tierney, despite Brentford loss?
But in front of their fans, Brentford were excellent. Dogged, determined, Thomas Frank’s side shellshocked Arsenal and hardly gave the Gunners a sniff. Sergi Canos opened the scoring, rifling an effort from the left-hand side of the box into the back of the net. Arsenal did have chances.
But ultimately, the second and only other goal of the game came from Christian Norgaard. Arsenal’s defence was horrific in trying to defend a long throw-in and Norgaard profted – heading in from close range. Despite the loss, some Arsenal fans did praise for £81k-a-week (Spotrac) Tierney for his display at Brentford.
