A number of Arsenal fans believe that they have something special on their hands after Gabriel Martinelli marked his first start for the Gunners with a brace in the Carabao Cup.

The 18-year-old was given the chance to lead the line against Nottingham Forest at the Emirates. He came off the bench in the opening day win at Newcastle, but Tuesday’s tie was the first time that the Arsenal fans had had a chance to see the forward start a competitive game for the club.

And within 31 minutes, he had already notched his first goal for the Gunners. A brilliant cross from Calum Chambers was emphatically headed home by Martinelli. It was a superb finish given the pace on the cross from Chambers.

That proved to be the only goal until the final 20 minutes. But Unai Emery’s men ensured that they would be in the hat in the next round as they then scored three times in 13 minutes.

But it was Martinelli who rounded off the scoring with the best finish of the evening. The striker ran with the ball before picking out the top corner from outside the area with a sumptuous curling effort.

And the Arsenal fans are, understandably, struggling to contain their excitement about the teenager. The Telegraph reports that the Gunners paid around £6 million for him in the summer. And it already appears that that deal is going to prove to be an incredible bargain.

Plenty have suggested that he should now feature more often in the Premier League. They feel that he could be an amazing talent, and are convinced that he is going to the very top of the game.

Here is what some of the Arsenal fans were saying about Martinelli’s performance…
