Gabriel Martinelli has earned plaudits from Arsenal fans for a brilliant performance on Wednesday night – despite playing from the right flank.

Martinelli, 20, was handed just his third start of the season in all competitions for Arsenal this season – as the Gunners beat Wimbledon 3-0.

A three-time Brazil international, Martinelli was a threat throughout. While he failed to score, he certainly gave Mikel Arteta a reminder.

As did Alexandre Lacazette, Emile Smith-Rowe and Eddie Nketiah – with all three finding the back of the net against League One side Wimbledon.

Martinelli is likely to be on the bench when the North London derby comes around. But Arteta will have liked what he saw from the £6m (Goal) star.

What are Arsenal fans saying about Martinelli, after Wimbledon win?

Martinelli is an enormous talent, but he has come in for some criticism in recent weeks. But many must remember his injuries, and schedule of late.

Numerous injury issues were then followed by his participation in the Tokyo Olympics. So, he has endured a tumultuous time of late.

Arteta needs to manage him right. He will want Martinelli to get some momentum at Arsenal, but will want to avoid risking any kind of injury.

Injury, tiredness – burnout. Finding a balance between momentum and another setback is crucial for £90k-a-week (Spotrac) Martinelli.

Plenty of Arsenal fans have responded on Twitter to Martinelli’s display for the Gunners – and many applauded the South American ace.
