Arsenal fans question Alan Shearer after he leaves Mohamed Elneny out of TOTW

Some Arsenal fans have a bone to pick with Alan Shearer, who has controversially left Mohamed Elneny out of his latest Team of the Week.

The Newcastle United legend has named his best XI for the seventh round of Premier League fixtures, but there is no place for the Egyptian dynamo despite putting in arguably his best performance of the season against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Shearer did include Gabriel and Thomas Partey, but stopped short of making it a hat-trick of Gunners players.

Elneny came in for major praise on social media after Arsenal’s 1-0 on Saunday, with fans and former players hailing his tireless energy and defensive contributions.

A clip has been going round on Twitter of the 28-year-old pressing relentlessly in the 91st minute of the game, which has delighted the Gunners faithful.

Elneny’s showing wasn’t quite enough for Shearer to include him though, with the 50-year-old plumping for an XI of Alex McCarthy, Kyle Walker, Nat Phillips, Gabriel, Rayan Ait-Nouri, James Ward-Prowse, Thomas Partey, Youri Tielemans, Hakim Ziyech, Callum Wilson and Jamie Vardy.

Ward-Prowse and Tielemans, in fairness, both had terrific performances, with the Saints star scoring two sublime free-kicks and the Belgian also provided two goals for Leicester against Leeds last night.
