Arsenal fans praise Mesut Ozil after comeback victory against West Ham United

The Gunners recovered from an abject first half to clinch a much-needed victory.

Freddie Ljungberg went into Arsenal’s trip to another of his former clubs, West Ham United, last night looking for his first win in charge at the third attempt.

Angelo Ogbonna’s opening goal meant the Gunners went in at half time 1-0 down and their abject performance on the night and poor overall away record meant that hopes of a comeback looked slim.

But Ljungberg was able to inspire a comeback, thanks to goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and clinch a much-needed victory.

Mesut Ozil will always attract criticism, and some fans have pointed out that the poor run of form which led to Unai Emery’s sacking came at the same time he was brought back into the side.

But there was plenty of praise for the midfielder on Twitter in the aftermath of last night’s victory, having played the full 90 minutes.

Ozil is adept at unlocking deep defences and with the pace that Arsenal now have all around him, he should be able to pick a pass out.

Manchester City are up next and represent the kind of high-octane opponent Ozil generally struggles against. That said, they look fragile at the moment and the fans will hope that the playmaker can take full advantage.
