Arsenal suffered a defeat away to Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon – but some of the club’s fans on Twitter did give credit to their goalkeeper Mat Ryan for his debut performance.

The Gunners were beaten by a 1-0 scoreline at Villa Park, with the hosts scoring in just the second minute through in-form centre-forward Ollie Watkins.

Mikel Arteta’s side have now suffered back-to-back losses in the Premier League, after failing to bounce back from their defeat midweek against Wolverhampton Wanders.

The North London club remain 10th in the league table and have hit another speed bump in their season, plus they have a week off now before hosting Leeds United next Sunday.

Arsenal managed just three shots on target during the game, while opponents Villa had eight.

A selection of Arsenal supporters on social media did give credit to their new goalkeeper for his display.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper only joined in the January window on loan from Brighton and he made his first appearance for the club to cover for injured number one Bernd Leno.

He could’t do much about the deselected goal from close range, but he made a couple of eye-catching saves in the contest and has made a strong first impression.

Here are some Gunners fans discussing Ryan:
