Arsenal fans praise Kieran Tierney despite defeat to Aston Villa

Arsenal suffered a surprise defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday evening as Jack Grealish and co. put the Gunners to the sword at the Emirates with a 3-0 victory – and Gunners supporters have discussed Kieran Tierney’s display on Twitter.

Arsenal came into the match after three straight wins over Dundalk, Manchester United and Molde and were expected to beat Villa. Dean Smith’s men had suffered two straight losses to Leeds and Southampton, after a good start.

But Villa ripped up the pre-match script. A John McGinn strike was disallowed, but it set the template for the match – as Villa looked dangerous when going forward, while Arsenal failed to test their former goalkeeper Emi Martinez.

Trezeguet opened the scoring, tapping home after a brilliant low cross from Matty Targett after an excellent pass from Jack Grealish. Ollie Watkins netted two late goals, after two superb assists from Ross Barkley and Grealish.

Unlike his role as a flying left-back with Celtic, Tierney has been used on the left side of a three-man defence with Arsenal, under Mikel Arteta. The £75k-a-week (BBC) star has started seven of Arsenal’s eight games, and is beginning to show consistency.

Certainly, despite the poor overall performance on Sunday, Arsenal fans still took the time to applaud the Scotland international – with one supporter claiming Tierney was “our best player”.
