Granit Xhaka played the first-half of Switzerland’s international friendly against Croatia on Wednesday night – and some Arsenal fans on Twitter praised him for his performance.
The Gunners midfielder captained his nation during the 2-1 home defeat against Croatia, which was a warm-up ahead of upcoming Nations League fixtures.
Xhaka played the opening 45 minutes before wholesale changes were made at half-time, but left his mark on the game with a brilliant cross that was headed in by teammate Mario Gavranovic.
Croatia ran out winners though with goals from Josip Brekalo and Mario Pasalic.

Xhaka is regarded as a talisman for his country Switzerland and it’s a similar story at club level at the Emirates Stadium.
The 28-year-old is a regular starter in Mikel Arteta’s XI and is a left-footed central midfielder that helps dictate play with his range of passing, as well as being an aggressive tackler.
There is though plenty of competition in the centre of the park now at Arsenal and the recent arrival of Thomas Party from Atletico Madrid could potentially threaten Xhaka’s starting position, or perhaps they could form a combination together.
A selection of Arsenal supporters on social media reacted to Xhaka’s midweek display for Switzerland and were impressed with his contribution.
