Arsenal are reportedly interested in defender Cedric Soares from Premier League rivals Southampton – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter are pleased by the speculation.

According to the Telegraph, the Gunners are considering a move late in the January transfer window for the 28-year-old right-back.

It is understood that the Portugal international would consider a move this month, as his current deal with Southampton expires in the summer and they are looking to bring in full-back Kyle Walker-Peters from Tottenham.

The report explains that the Saints could listen to an offer of under £6million for Cedric given his contract situation.

Arsenal do have Hector Bellerin back to compete for his usual right-back role, while versatile ace Ainsley Maitland-Niles can fill that position too.

Cedric would be natural competition for Bellerin if he moved to the Emirates Stadium and could be snapped up by Mikel Arteta’s team for a bargain price.

A selection of Arsenal supporters on social media believe that Cedric could be a smart addition to their squad and are totally behind a January swoop for him.

He’s a right-back by trade that has plenty of experience in the Premier League from his time at St Mary’s, but also has the versatility to slot in at left-back too.
