Arsenal fans on Twitter left ruing Wenger's 2018 exit
Arsenal fans are ruing Arsene Wenger’s exit.
The Frenchman walked away from the club in 2018 after an incredible 22-year stint at the club.
The legendary manager has recently opened up on his departure from the club in his autobiography and in an interview with The Telegraph.
Wenger spoke about his “very lonely, very painful” exit and his final few years at the club when things started to go wrong.
However, the fans will quickly point out now that since his exit things have gone from bad to worse.
Wenger’s two final seasons saw him take Arsenal to 5th and 6th placed finishes.
Meanwhile in the two most recent campaigns the Gunners have finished 8th twice under Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal fans are ruing Arsene Wenger’s exit
The current campaign is Arsenal’s first season out of Europe since the 1995/96 season, showing how quickly they’ve fallen in Wenger’s absence.
This is really a lesson for the supporters to be careful what you wish for.
Wenger may have needed to leave when he did finally say his goodbyes.
However, the fans will likely regret their consistent calls for his exit in the final few years that the Frenchman spent at The Emirates.
It’s easy to point to poor performances in the Champions League, but domestically Wenger performed.
Arsenal won the FA Cup three times in Wenger’s final five seasons at the club, showing that he could still compete at the top level.
The fans will be desperate for Arteta to return them to the Champions League eventually.
However, it’ll take a lot of work to return them to the levels they achieved under Wenger.
What do the fans think?

They’d want you back…..
If anyone can turn around and say “I told you so”, it’s Wenger. Even I got fed up with him right at the end but was under no illusion that a change would bring success. Arsenal’s biggest problem seems to be expectation due to a legacy that man built— Davie Richie (@David_R_1986) September 21, 2021

Man who inspired an entire generation. One of PL’s greats. https://t.co/DvWmjgwEoZ— LightBulb (@josezahirsha) September 21, 2021
I think that’s probably true. Fair enough he wasn’t at his early 2000s levels but Arsenal don’t have the money to compete with United, City, Chelsea etc.— Matthew Wiggins (@MattyWiggins1) September 21, 2021
Arsenal should have looked what happened to United after SAF left, grass isn’t always greener.
