A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to bemoan the prospect of Gunners on-loan midfielder Martin Odegaard potentially missing the next two games.
The Norwegian sat out the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final tie against Slavia Prague due to an ankle issue picked up while on international duty.
Odegaard was missed at the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal struggled to kill the game off, missing several good chances, and were made to pay as they conceded in injury time.
The 22-year-old could now miss the Gunners’ Premier League trip to Sheffield United on Sunday, and possibly the second leg of their tie with Slavia next Thursday.
Asked after the Thursday night draw whether he was concerned Odegaard might be missing for the long term, Mikel Arteta said: “We don’t know.
“He wasn’t able to play today and he will be out, I think, for the next game or two. But we don’t know yet.”
Given Arsenal’s downturn in form, the prospect of an important player like Odegaard missing two games, including arguably the most important one of the season, is worrying.
Here is what some Gunners fans have been saying on social media:
Ok so no Europa league win for us😭
