Arsenal fans laud Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following Ballon d’Or nomination

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been named on the 30-man shortlist for this year’s Ballon d’Or.

The 30-year-old has been officially recognised by France Football and will battle it out for football’s biggest individual honour.

It is the third time he has been shortlisted in his career, having come joint-21st in 2017, and 11th in 2016.

Realistically the Gunners man won’t win the 2019 award, with Lionel Messi or Virgil van Dijk the frontrunners, but the recognition will be highly satisfying for the Gabon international.

Aubameyang has been in sublime goalscoring form ever since he joined the club from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.

The £56 million signing (BBC Sport) has an outstanding record of 49 goals in just 75 appearances, and he also has 12 assists.

Another goal against Sheffield United tonight, and he’ll become the quickest-ever Arsenal player to reach 50 goals for the club.

Aubameyang has become a huge crowd favourite at Arsenal for his prowess in front of goal and fans are hoping their talisman can fire the Gunners back into the Champions League for next season.

Arsenal fans react

Lots of Arsenal fans on Twitter were delighted to see their player receive recognition for his wonderful form over the past year:
