Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a move to sign RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate this summer with The Athletic stating the Reds are looking to finalise a deal – and Arsenal fans have responded to the reports on Twitter, somewhat enviously.

Konate, 21, has emerged as one of Leipzig’s brightest talents in recent months despite only clocking up 15 appearances in all competitions this season. The France Under-21 international has been in and out of the side due to injury, and a lack of form.

But that has not deterred Liverpool. Indeed, The Athletic claim Liverpool are close to completing a move that will see the Premier League champions activate the defender’s £34million release clause. A centre-back is likely to be the Reds priority this summer.

Konate has now played 89 times in all competitions for Leipzig, catching the eye with his performances in the Champions League – though he remained on the bench for both legs against Liverpool. He has pace, strength but above all – huge potential.

Arsenal and other Premier League clubs have been linked with Konate since the turn of the year, and many Gunners fans were hopeful he would end up in a Gunners shirt. Instead, they have reacted on Twitter to reports Liverpool are close to his signature.
