Arsenal fans jealous as Chelsea complete deadline-day signing of Saul Niguez
Chelsea completed a late move to sign Saul Niguez on a loan-to-buy deal from Atletico Madrid – and Arsenal fans have reacted with frustration.
It has been a strange transfer window for Arsenal. While the Gunners spent more than any other Premier League side, many question their additions.
The Gunners have spent north of £150m on Martin Odegaard, Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale, Albert Lokonga, Nuno Tavares and Takehiro Tomiyasu.
But they are all signings that are likely to be seen as players for the future – none are expected to provide the difference immediately at N17.
Niguez would have given Arsenal that. The Spain international has joined Chelsea on a loan-to-buy deal, in the last minutes of deadline day.
Saul Niguez joins Chelsea: What do Arsenal fans think on Twitter?
Central midfield is an issue for Arsenal. The addition of Ramsdale sorts the goalkeeping area out, while the defence has been strengthened.
Tomiyasu is a good signing and White is an England international. Though Arsenal might have overpaid, he could be a really strong addition.
Up top, Arsenal still have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and plenty more fire power. Odegaard has come back in.
But it was in central midfield that additions were pivotal. Lokonga is a talent, but he is hardly the immediate answer.
That lack of improvement was compounded by Granit Xhaka’s red card, while Mo Elneny is in the final 12 months of his contract at Arsenal.
So, to see Saul join London rivals Chelsea, will have been painful for Arsenal fans – a deal worth £33.4million (Sky). Many reacted on Twitter.
