Arsenal returned to the top four of the Premier League with a fairly straightforward 2-0 victory over Southampton at the Emirates Stadium yesterday.
It was all but sewn up in the first half when goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Henrikh Mkhitaryan put the Gunners in command.
And while Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side were able to muster an impressive comeback in the sides’ first meeting of the season at St Mary’s, there was to be no repeat.
With Aaron Ramsey leaving at the end of the season and Mesut Ozil out of favour, a lot of creative burden may be set to fall on the shoulders of Mkhitaryan in the months to come.

That may not be a universally popular state of affairs at the Emirates because the former Manchester United playmaker has not shown his best form on a particularly regular basis since moving to north London.
The feeling persists that he is perhaps a bit too nice for English football but at his best in the Bundesliga, he was a modern, high-pressing playmaker and that’s what Unai Emery needs from him now.
Arsenal’s fans responded well to his goalscoring display and are looking forward to seeing him get back to his best…
