A number of Arsenal fans have criticised the report claiming Mikel Arteta will make Alexandre Lacazette captain against West Ham.
The Gunners are currently without a permanent captain after Arteta stripped Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of the armband.
On Tuesday, Arsenal confirmed in a statement that the 32-year-old “will no longer be” the Gunners captain.

In addition, Arteta will not consider Aubameyang for selection for Arsenal’s Premier League meeting with the Hammers.
“We expect all our players, particularly our captain, to work to the rules and standards we have all set and agreed,” said the statement.
While the Arsenal boss didn’t disclose how Aubameyang broke the rules, reports claim he returned late from a trip abroad.
Lacazette captained the Gunners in the win over Southampton and is part of the players’ “leadership group”.
Now, according to The Athletic, the 29-year-old will also take the armband against West Ham.

While there’s no suggestion this could be a long-term plan, some Gunners fans are nonetheless not best pleased.
Some feel Lacazette’s expiring contract and uncertain future at the club should rule him out of contention.
Others, meanwhile, believe there are better candidates for the captaincy in the team.
