Arsenal fans drool over Thiago’s display amid reported interest

Arsenal fans probably needed little encouragement to get excited when the links with Thiago Alcantara emerged over the weekend.

But a Champions League final masterclass from the midfielder hours after the Daily Mail reported the Gunners’ interest appears to have rapidly elevated the 29-year-old’s name to the top of many supporters’ summer wish lists.

The Mail had suggested that Mikel Arteta’s men had made an enquiry for the Spain international amid doubts over his Bayern Munich future.

The report noted that the Bavarian side could sell the midfielder for just £23 million. He has one year on his current contract, and is said to be reluctant to pen an extension.

It remains to be seen if he does leave Bayern this summer. But surely it would come as no surprise if his value rose following Sunday night’s victory over Paris Saint-Germain.

Thiago was outstanding in Lisbon. He dictated the play with ease and played an important role in the decisive goal with a wonderful pass.

It is clear that few Arsenal fans are expecting an easy ride to securing Thiago’s signature. But the supporters are adamant that the Gunners need to do all they can to follow up on their initial interest.

Thiago highlighted what a fantastic signing he would be in the final. And plenty of Arsenal fans are now dreaming of the idea of the former Barcelona man ending the window in North London.
