Leicester City cruised to a 4-0 win over Aston Villa on Monday night, as Brendan Rodgers’ side strengthened their bid for Champions League qualification – and many Arsenal supporters drooled over Foxes midfielder Wilfried Ndidi.
Harvey Barnes opened the scoring after chasing down an excellent pass from Marc Albrighton, beforte skillfully going past the on-rushing Pepe Reina and finishing with aplomb. Jamie Vardy made it two from the spot, after Tyrone Mings handled.
Vardy had failed to score a Premier League goal in the new year, despite previously scoring 17 this season. He netted his second of the night, and 19th of the campaign, as he lashed home an effort at Reina’s near post. Barnes made it four with a top finish.
Ndidi, 23, anchored the midfield in what was only his second Premier League start since New Year’s Day. The Nigeria international has had a number of niggling knee injuries, last starting in the 4-1 win over West Ham.
The Guardian claimed ahead of the January window that Arsenal are interested in signing 34-time international Ndidi, and that Mikel Arteta could offer a fee of £40million plus Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka to land Ndidi.
Many Arsenal fans reacted to Ndidi’s display on Monday night, in awe of the African star. They urged their club to do everything within their power to lure the former KRC Genk star to The Emirates this summer.
