Thiago Alcantara starred in the middle of the park for Bayern Munich on Sunday afternoon as the German champions rarely exceeded second gear with a comfortable 2-0 win over Union Berlin – and Arsenal fans have drooled over the Spaniard’s display.
The Bundesliga returned to the delight of football fans, as supporters got to see their first live action in more than two months – albeit from home, as the return was only rubber-stamped with the promise of behind-closed-doors action.
Bayern’s trip to Union Berlin was one of two games on Sunday, after Mainz had come back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Koln. Leon Goretzka won a penalty for Bayern, and Robert Lewandowski scored – his 40th of the season.

Benjamin Pavard made it two late on, as he expertly headed home Joshua Kimmich’s pinpoint corner, rounding off a comfortable return to action for Bayern. Thiago, though, was elegant throughout.
The former Barcelona star, 29, remains one of the first names on the team sheet at Bayern – having clocked up as many as 228 appearances in all competitions. Dropping deeper, Thiago is renowned as one of the best passers of the ball in Europe.
Arsenal supporters reacted to Thiago’s performance on Twitter, with many raving about the 37-time Spain international’s efforts. Some discussed whether he would be a good signing for the Gunners.
