Arsenal fans discuss reported update on £48,000-a-week player
John Cross of The Mirror claims that Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been told he won’t be training with Arsenal. After a move to Everton collapsed, he posted an emotional message on Instagram and it’s not been well received by Mikel Arteta.
According to a live transfer blog by The Mirror (31/08; 10:09), Maitland-Niles has no future with Arsenal. He has played just 19 minutes of Premier League football during 2021/22 and wants to move.
Everton looked to offer the versatile performer an escape route. Rafa Benitez looks to have made a u-turn though, leaving Maitland-Niles in limbo on transfer deadline day.
In January, the Arsenal academy graduate joined West Bromwich Albion on loan. He made 15 appearances under Sam Allardyce but failed to help the club avoid relegation.
As a versatile option, he will have hoped to have forced his way into Arteta’s thinking. He can operate in midfield, on the right-wing or as a right-back.
His Instagram post yesterday which implied he simply wants to feel loved and to play football hasn’t gone down well with the Arsenal boss.
Now, he’ll train with the club’s under-23 ranks and he’ll hope that a club comes forward with an offer before tonight’s deadline.
Arsenal fans have sympathy for Maitland-Niles
The Gunners fan base are disgruntled. They have massive respect for Maitland-Niles and think he should be allowed to leave.
The 24-year-old has made 123 appearances for Arsenal in total and offered support in a number of different positions for the club.
Maitland-Niles earns £48,000-a-week and getting that salary away from the books could help Arsenal add one or two more between now and tonight’s deadline.
Following this morning’s update, supporters have taken to Twitter. They want to see him sold if he isn’t going to play and fans have vented at Arteta.
With that in mind, here is what they had to say.
