Arsenal fans discuss potential signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Versatile Premier League performer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has emerged as a shock target for Arsenal, according to reports.
The Liverpool player has fallen down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp, amid an ever-growing list of injury problems.
Oxlade-Chamberlain signed for the former champions in 2017 from the Gunners, costing them £35 million
It is thought that Oxlade-Chamberlain is growing frustrated with a lack of chances at Anfield.
Oxlade-Chamberlain played alongside Mikel Arteta when Arsenal won the FA Cup back-to-back in 2014 and 2015.
He has a superb relationship with the player and a new midfielder could be on Arteta’s radar.
The Arsenal manager has previously called the Liverpool man a ‘great player’ and he now wants to take him back to North London.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 109 outings for Liverpool, scoring 14 goals and claiming 12 assists.
At 28, he quite simply needs to be playing and leaving Anfield looks like his best chance to do that in the coming years.
Oxlade-Chamberlain earns £120,000-a-week and that should be a wage that Arsenal are more than comfortable with.
The Gunners do have plenty of midfield talent. Thomas Partey has a point to prove, whilst Albert Sambi Lokonga was signed with bags of potential. Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny are also still at the club.
What have Arsenal fans said about Oxlade-Chamberlain?
It’s fair to say that plenty of supporters aren’t overly excited about the potential for this deal to come to fruition.
Many view this as a somewhat backward step, although it would only be on loan, to begin with.
The report claims that Arsenal are keen to sign the 35-cap Oxlade-Chamberlain in January, taking him on a six-month loan.
Arsenal would then hold a deal to take him on a permanent deal should he impress.
Still, the fan base thinks the club should be aiming higher and have taken to Twitter to vent their frustration.
