Arsenal fans discuss performance of Reiss Nelson on Feyenoord debut
It may be two months since he signed for them, but Arsenal talent Reiss Nelson has finally made his debut for Feyenoord. The youngster came on as a substitute in the 60th minute of a 2-2 draw with RKC Waalwijk.
Nelson has been forced to wait patiently. He picked up an injury shortly after arriving and has been forced to play a watching brief so far during his time in Hollands.
Feyenoord sit fifth in the Eredivisie. As a result, the Arsenal youngster will need to be mindful of the strong start and he might have to wait patiently for a starting berth.
Nelson signed for the Dutch outfit back in August. He penned a new deal with Arsenal until 2023 and then headed out on loan to gain some invaluable experience.
Things haven’t been going according to plan at Arsenal. He’s never really convinced Mikel Arteta and he perhaps prefers other options within his squad.
Nelson is a product of the Hale End academy. He has spent time on loan with Hoffenheim too and he’ll hope the Feyenoord opportunity can earn him an Arsenal chance.
The 21-year-old has played 48 times for Arsenal. During that time, he’s scored four times and claimed as many assists.
Playing football is paramount at this stage of his development. With that in mind, the move to Feyenoord looks like it could be a fruitful one.
What have Arsenal fans said about Nelson?
It’s early days but his maiden outing in the Eredivisie did seem Nelson produce some nice touches. Of course, he’ll need to do it more frequently but ultimately it was a decent cameo.
Some Arsenal fans do remain unconvinced on Nelson. They don’t think he’ll ever have the required quality to make the grade at the Emirates and perhaps that is a little harsh.
He has played very little football over the last year and this loan could be a good one. The jury will perhaps remain out just yet, although some Arsenal fans are pleased to see him back.
