Shkodran Mustafi replied to a Arsenal fan on Wednesday night after helping the Gunners beat Nottingham Forest 5-0 in the Carabao Cup – and fans of the north London club have criticised his decision to do so.
Mustafi, 27, has hardly proved his enormous £35million (Guardian) transfer fee that saw the Germany international move to The Emirates from Valencia in the summer of 2016. Indeed, it saw Unai Emery bring in David Luiz this summer.
The 20-time Germany international has fallen down the pecking order and Emery is likely to prefer Sokratis, Luiz and even Rob Holding. Mustafi has only been handed two appearances this season – including the win over Forest.
Mustafi posted on Twitter, to which a fan replied by highlighting the fact that Mustafi had kept two clean sheets in his two appearances – the other coming in a 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League. Mustafi sarcastically replied.
With Arsenal’s new signing Luiz and Sokratis certainly struggling in the Premier League, Mustafi will be hoping his run of clean sheets continues as he looks to break back into the side.
But Arsenal fans are not impressed with the ex-Everton man. Many have reacted angrily to his reply to the Gunners fan, with some reminding Mustafi that his clean sheets have come against slightly lesser opposition – while others told him to focus.
