Fulham’s relegation from the Premier League was officially confirmed on Tuesday night after a 4-1 loss against Watford.
With just 17 points in 33 games, it has been a difficult season for all involved at Craven Cottage.
But one player can hold his head high despite Fulham’s demotion. Calum Chambers, on loan from Arsenal, has been impressive for Fulham.
Operating in a defensive midfield role, the former Southampton man has adapted well after moving out of defence.
But ultimately, Chambers suffered relegation for the second time of his career, having experienced the drop while on loan at Middlesbrough.
The 24-year-old has been a standout performer for the Cottagers, though, in a difficult campaign and he could use this experience to break into the first-team at Arsenal.
Chambers took to Twitter to share his devastation. He tweeted: “Absolutely gutted…this club deserves to be in the Premier League and I’m sorry we’ve not been able to achieve this! Thank you to all the fans that have been on this journey with us and supported us all the way through.”
Here are some tweets from Arsenal fans offering condolences to Chambers and talking about his future.
You gave your best in midfield and defence in a difficult season. I think the Fulham fans will respect your efforts. Hope you can continue to develop at Arsenal
