Arsenal fans are fuming after hearing the striker Andrea Berta has just spoken to, it’s ‘pointless’

At the end of the summer new Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta will be judged on the quality of striker Arsenal are able to sign.

Mikel Arteta made it very clear in January that he wanted Arsenal to sign a new number nine, even if that didn’t happen immediately.

But there’s now widespread belief that Arsenal will sign a striker before the end of August — Kai Havertz will have a new partner at the Emirates.

And whilst many believe that Andrea Berta will opt for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko or Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, there’s one name that refuses to go away.

After a failed bid in January, Arsenal are still interested in Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa.

Arsenal fans aren’t happy with fresh Ollie Watkins talks

On that note, Team News and Tix recently reported that Arsenal had spoken to Ollie Watkins once again, fuelling a reaction from fans on X.

Despite scoring 75 goals in 184 Premier League games, Arsenal supporters didn’t seem on board with the idea of Berta recruiting Watkins for next season.

Replying to the news, one fan wrote: “Pointless. Better options out there. Poor investment option, he’s 30 in six months, Gyokeres is a much better investment.”

Of course when comparing Sesko and Gyokeres, some fans in N5 have even labelled the Swede as a risky buy given he’s 27-year-old.

And in a similar tone, another fan thought it was time to move on from the idea of recruiting Watkins, a long-term target of the club.

They wrote: “For me that ship has sailed and given the CFs that are around right now this would feel underwhelming for me personally.”

And in an even simpler statement one fan simply declared: “We don’t want him.”

Ollie Watkins shouldn’t be written off just yet

In regards to the striker’s future, TBR Football recently shared that Villa might end up selling Watkins this summer in a move that could see a new number nine in.

And even if Watkins isn’t the most desired option on the market in the eyes of some Arsenal fans, he might still be a very clever pick up.

Arteta has lacked a striker who can run in behind a defence for some time now, and Watkins would be sufficiently different to Havertz at the Emirates.

Sesko is Arsenal’s first choice right now, but he might be almost too similar to Havertz stylistically — he might not be a big differential coming on from the bench.

But if Arsenal can sign Watkins for a relatively modest fee, it could prove a very clever pick up.

Watkins is an Arsenal fan and given he’s yet to win a trophy in his career, he would be desperate to win in north London, a player who undoubtedly has an excellent attitude.
