Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has explained that he’s kept Willian in the side recently to reward him for his form – but some Gunners fans on Twitter are not happy with his comments.
Willian, 32, has started the last three consecutive games across all competitions, and is looking in arguably his best form of the season.
The winger provided an assist on Thursday night during the 3-1 away win against Olympiacos in the Europa League first leg last-16 tie.
Arsenal’s manager hailed the Brazilian attacker post-match:
“I think he was really good again tonight. I wanted to give him some continuity because he deserves it. He’s training really well. Another assist,” Arteta said, as quoted by the Metro.

A selection of Arsenal supporters on social media are angered by Arteta’s comments due to the fact they feel he doesn’t stick to the same principal when he’s dealing with Nicolas Pepe.
Willian is being rewarded lately with game time, but some feel the same can’t be said for teammate Pepe when he’s performing.
Pepe, 25, is a skilful wide player that scored recently and impressed in a 3-1 victory against Leicester City.
But he’s only been used as a substitute in the two games that have followed.
It’s fair to point out that the manager is rotating fairly frequently due to the sheer amount of fixtures, but he’s being accused of favouritism by some fans that feel Pepe is being harshly treated.
