Sead Kolasinac reportedly has a clause in his loan deal with Schalke that has seen him waive a large part of his salary – and some Arsenal fans on Twitter have applauded the defender for his actions.

Kolasinac was being heavily linked with a switch to German top-flight club Schalke and the Gunners confirmed on Thursday afternoon that he has joined them on loan for the rest of the 2020/21 season.

The 27-year-old left-back has fallen behind Kieran Tierney in the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, meaning he’s played just nine games across all competitions this season.

He’s now joining former club Schalke, who are massively struggling at the bottom of the Bundesliga and need a drastic turnaround to avoid relegation.

According to German publication Bild, Kolasinac will waive a large part of his salary and receive €2.4million (£2.15million) for the six-month loan deal.

A selection of Arsenal supporters have commended Kolasinac for taking a pay cut to go play regular football elsewhere.

Several have taken a dig at Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil in the process, who hasn’t played a competitive game for the club since March.

The 32-year-old is on a £350,000-a-week deal (Spotrac) at the North London club that expires at the end of the season and he’s frozen out of Mikel Arteta’s squad.
