Manchester United progressed into the Europa League semi-finals with an extra-time 1-0 win over FC Copenhagen – but goalkeeper Karl-Johan Johnsson took the plaudits, prompting praise from Arsenal fans and Cesc Fabregas.
United hit the woodwork numerous times and had more than just one goal disallowed throughout the initial 90 minutes. Eventually, Bruno Fernandes scored from the penalty spot to send United into the last four.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had to do some defending, too. Bryan Oviedo had a glorious chance to score in the second half, only for a stunning block from Aaron Wan-Bissaka to deny the ex-Everton and Sunderland man.

While United earned a place in the last four, it was Sweden international Johnsson that earned praise on social media for his display. His 13 saves against United was the most in one Europa League game since 2009.
They included denying Anthony Martial with a stunning one-handed stop, preventing Marcus Rashford in a one-on-one and many other efforts. He only joined Copenhagen in the summer of 2019 from French side Guingamp.
Arsenal supporters reacted to his stellar display by urging their club to consider him – given doubts over Emi Martinez’s future at Arsenal as back-up to Bernd Leno. Fabregas also praised Johnsson’s display.
