Arsenal might want to sign Darwin Nunez from Benfica this summer, but they’re likely to face a huge fight to do so given a report from The Athletic this morning.
Reports last week had suggested Benfica had told Arsenal they could sign Nunez. The Uruguayan striker is one of the hottest properties on the European market at the moment after putting in some hugely impressive performances over in Portugal.
However, a report from The Athletic this morning has named PSG, Manchester United, and Chelsea as the three clubs currently heading the queue to land Nunez. The Premier League duo and the French giants are reportedly ahead of the rest and are big fans of the Benfica striker’s talents.

Nunez, 22, has scored an impressive 31 goals in just 36 games in all competitions for Benfica this season. He has been linked with a move to a number of Europe’s best, and Newcastle are also thought to have him on their hitlist too.
For Arsenal, the interest from clubs like United and Chelsea will be a worry. PSG, too, with all their spending power, will also concern Edu. The Gunners are desperate for a new number nine this summer and Nunez, who has a £127m release-clause in his contract, is the ideal target.
TBR’s View: Nunez Could Be The Name Who Dominates The Summer
He’s slowly built his reputation up and you get the sense that Darwin Nunez could be the next big thing in European football when it comes to scoring goals.
31 this season is quite remarkable and at just 22, you’d had to assume he’s only going to get better. He’s everything Arsenal need and more, but the other clubs lurking do pose a problem.
Money could end up doing the talking once again here and if Arsenal do miss out on Darwin Nunez, it might have shades of the Dusan Vlahovic deal which got away from them in January.
