Report: Arsenal now eyeing ‘exquisite’ £16m gem who Lampard wants at Everton

Arsenal are reportedly keeping an eye on Montpellier striker, Elye Wahi, as the Gunners ramp up their January plans.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Arsenal have been following the young forward for months and could look to make a move if a deal presents itself.

Wahi, 20, has been a regular for Montpellier this season and has already scored an impressive seven goals in just 15 appearances for the French side. His form is also said to have attracted the interest of Everton, who are credited with holding an interest in a potential £16m deal.

However, Foot Mercato claims it is also Arsenal who are in the mix as well. The Gunners have made a habit of snapping up exciting young players in recent windows and clearly consider Wahi as another option.

Described as having ‘exquisite‘ one touch finishing by scouting site Breaking the Lines, Wahi is yet another off the long production line of exciting French players emerging. Indeed, Arsenal’s history of raiding the French market is something that will appeal to Wahi as well.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is hoping to be backed in January to bring in new players. Mykhaylo Mudryk is their number one target, but Arsenal do have other irons in the fire. Wahi, it seems, could be one of them.

TBR’s View: Arsenal continue to grow and Wahi another top talent

Nobody can accuse Arsenal of not having their finger on the pulse when it comes to the market. Whenever a top young player is linked, the Gunners seem to be right in the mix.

Wahi is, of course, a raw talent with a lot of improvement needed to be a top PL player. But these players are who Arteta loves getting in. And he’s already proven how good a coach he is.

Should Arsenal get Wahi, then it’s another exciting talent added.
