Arsenal exploring bid for defender Djene who has £30m release clause at Getafe

Arsenal are keen on Getafe defender Djene to bolster their backline this summer, according to Spanish outlet Marca, via the Daily Mirror.

They report that the 27-year-old Togo international has a £30m release clause in his current contract, which has taken the interest of the Gunners.

Djene can reportedly play at both centre half and right back – which are both positions Arsenal need to improve upon this summer – as Unai Emery looks to reshape his squad this summer.

Shkodran Mustafi is the most shaky of Arsenal’s current backline and desperately needs upgrading this summer and powerful Djene would be a clear improvement.

When Rob Holding comes back from injury, his performances this season should ensure that he is first-choice at centre half, but he still needs a partner.

Laurent Koscielny is coming to the end of his career, and cannot be that player week in, week out, and Djene is the right age and profile to be the commanding defender Arsenal need.

It’s a big summer for Emery and he needs to get his recruitment right, although the pursestrings may well be loosened if his can get his side into the Champions League next season, with the most likely route being via the Europa League.
