Performance of Eric Bailly during PSG win will have Arsenal glad they didn’t pursue January move

The versatile defender endured a torrid time of things against the French side’s attacking flair and the catalyst to United’s win was his withdrawal.

Manchester United secured their place in the Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday night after defeating PSG 3-1.

It gave the Red Devils an away goals victory over the Parisians and kept the fairytale going under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The outcome could have been so much different had defender Eric Bailly not hobbled off injured early doors.

The Ivorian looked massively overawed against the French giants and couldn’t handle the trickery of Angel Di Maria.

Had Arsenal been watching on, they certainly won’t have been regretting the decision not to pursue his signature in January.

According to Manchester Evening News, United rejected a loan move from Arsenal for the defender.

The 24-year-old looked way off the pace in Paris and it remains to be seen what that no means for his United career.

Arsenal certainly need defensive reinforcements during the summer but it would be a major shock if they returned for Bailly.

The man signed from Villarreal has played just 11 league games this season.

Injuries haven’t helped his case for game time. Arguably that is another reason why Arsenal will be glad that a deal couldn’t be struck.

On last night’s showing, the Gunners had a lucky escape in not landing Bailly.

The Gunners have carried enough defensive passengers in recent years and can ill-afford any more.
