Arsenal dreaming what could have been as Robert Navarro breaks Monaco record

It’s been a good week for young talent at Arsenal, but it could have been even better has the club pulled off the signing of Robert Navarro earlier on this year.

The Spaniard left Barcelona after turning 16-years-old in April, but Thierry Henry’s Monaco beat off Arsenal, Juventus and Manchester City in the race for his signature, according to newspaper Sport.

On Sunday, he made his debut for Monaco against Canet Roussillon in the Coupe de France and became the club’s youngest ever player at just 16 years and eight months of age.

An exciting attacking midfielder who can also play out wide, Navarro is highly rated and Barcelona were reluctant to see him leave the club in 2018 when he did depart having come through the club’s youth ranks.

Henry has clearly agreed with that opinion and turned to the midfielder from the bench in the 2-0 win over the fifth division team in the cup competition.

Arsenal’s next generation are clearly a talented one, with a number of players having staked their claim in the win over Blackpool this weekend, but Navarro would have added even more strength in depth.
