Report: Arsenal expect Emile Smith Rowe to sign his new contract soon; determined to keep him
Arsenal are apparently ‘determined’ to keep hold of Emile Smith Rowe this summer and ‘expect’ him to sign a new contract shortly.
That’s according to a report from Football.London, who were looking on as the Gunners returned to first-team training this week.
Smith Rowe has been the subject of interest from Aston Villa in recent weeks. Indeed, just a few days back it was suggested the Villans were coming back with a second offer for the young midfielder.
However, Arsenal seem set in their stance when it comes to Smith Rowe and now expect him to pen his new contract.
Tying Smith Rowe down would be another huge boost for the club. It would come after reports last night suggested that Kido Taylor-Hart is close to agreeing new terms as well.
Smith Rowe became integral for the Gunners last season. After a season learning his craft at Huddersfield, the midfielder exploded into life under Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal’s summer recruitment drive, coupled with this insistence on new deals for curreny players, is good news.
The club needs to secure its future. Of course, it needs to spend on quality as well. But tying down players like Smith Rowe is vital.
His emergence is a huge bonus for the club as well. There is every chance he becomes the creative midfielder the Gunners need, long-term.
Villa’s interest has been unsettling. But if Smith Rowe can sign, and sign quickly, then Arsenal can crack on with their pre-season.
