Arsenal have delivered updates on long-term absentees Gabriel Martinelli and Pablo Mari ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash against Irish side Dundalk – and one of the two Arsenal starscould return to training next month.
June was a difficult month for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta, as Pablo Mari suffered a long-term ankle injury against Manchester City that has kept the defender sidelined until now. It means Mari has managed just three appearances since joining in January.
Despite his lack of appearances, Mari was signed permanently for £14million (Sun) in the summer. But he is yet to play for the Gunners since that permanent deal. Just four days after Mari suffered his injury, Martinelli picked up a knee problem.
Now, more than four months on since the duo suffered those injuries – both are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel. The latest update from Arsenal claim Mari could return to first-team training during the November international break.
Meanwhile, Martinelli – who enjoyed an excellent campaign at Arsenal last season following his move Ituano, in which he scored 10 goals in 26 outings – is now looking to return to training before the end of the year.
Whether Mari or Martinelli can break into the Arsenal side upon their return, remains to be seen. The signing of Gabriel and return of Calum Chambers – may push Mari down the pecking order. Martinelli has plenty of competition up front.
