Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney will still prove to be £25m bargain

Arsenal signed defender Kieran Tierney last summer from Scottish champions Celtic and he’s had his first year in England completely wrecked by injury.

But the £25million signing (BBC) should not be written off at this stage in his Gunners career and he’s got the ability to go on to prove he’s a serious bargain addition.

The left-back has made just 11 senior appearances since his arrival in North London and he joined the club with a hip problem.

After a taste of first-team action in the closing months of 2019, he picked up a shoulder injury midway through December and has been out of action since.

Tierney has become somewhat of a forgotten man since his transfer and Arsenal have fortunately had 18-year-old academy talent Bukayo Saka burst onto the scene as a left-back to help cover the role.

But Saka has been an attacker during his development and is surely going to be used further froward in the long-term than at full-back.

Tierney has quite clearly not been able to show his best form due to circumstances out of his control, but he’s a major talent on the books at the Emirates Stadium and may still be real value for money.

The 22-year-old will prove he can be a major attacking threat when he can get a consistent run of games together next season, plus he’s a strong one-on-one defender too.

He was a real talisman during 170 first-team appearances for the Scottish club and doesn’t lack experience, which is why Arsenal fans should still be very excited about his future.
