Arsenal dealt transfer blow amid Jules Kounde links
Arsenal may have been dealt a transfer blow amid reports from The Athletic this week claiming that the Gunners are admirers of Jules Kounde, as well as Martin Odegaard.
The report suggested that Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his centre-back options this summer.
The Gunners are set to lose David Luiz. And Kounde goes into this summer off the back of an outstanding campaign with Sevilla.
The report did suggest that Arsenal may struggle to land Kounde. The 22-year-old’s asking price stands at around £50 million. And it was suggested that he was likely to want Champions League football.
And based on the latest reports on the Frenchman, it appears that Arsenal’s hopes of bringing him to North London may have now become even slimmer.
French outlet Foot Mercato reports that Real Madrid have now made initial contact with his representatives about a move.
The report notes that there are doubts over the futures of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane. So there is certainly set to be a space available for a new signing.
Report may have mixed implications for Arsenal transfer hopes amid Kounde and Odegaard links
Of course, losing out on Kounde to Los Blancos would be a blow for Mikel Arteta’s men – but there could be an upside.
Madrid are tracking the youngster, but Foot Mercato notes that they do not have the biggest transfer kitty this summer.
So perhaps, Arsenal will have an opportunity to capitalise should Kounde join Real.
Along with Kounde, Martin Odegaard looks set to be a target this summer. The Norwegian has been hugely impressive while on loan at the Emirates.
So Arsenal may want to take the opportunity to see if Odegaard leaving is a possibility as Madrid look to fund a move for Kounde.
It does not address their defensive void, but re-signing Odegaard would be an amazing way to kick off the summer.
