Arsenal have completed the shock summer signing of David Luiz from London rivals Chelsea, the Gunners have confirmed on their official website.

According to the BBC, the Brazilian has cost Arsenal £8 million and joins Celtic defender Kieran Tierney in penning terms at the Emirates on deadline day.

The 32-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge for a second spell at the club in 2016. It had seemed as though he would be an integral part of Frank Lampard’s plans, but instead, he has opted to depart.

Chelsea’s options at centre-back do now look somewhat stretched. Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori will compete for the two shirts.

The Blues’ loss is Arsenal’s gain, however and Luiz is a quality acquisition for the Gunners.

Unai Emery has spent the entire window persuing central defensive options and it will be interesting to see what impact Luiz has on the team.
