Arsenal could soon have another Emile Smith Rowe on their hands - TBR View
Make no mistake about it, Emile Smith Rowe’s loan spell at Huddersfield was crucial on his journey to Arsenal’s first-team.
As Mark Hudson told Sky Sports, the Hale End Academy graduate made a big impression with the Terriers.
He said: “You could see his talent immediately, his technique, his ability to speed the game up, take the ball on the half-turn. Because he is young and enthusiastic, he brings an energy and an ability to press as well. He is so intelligent with his movement.”
It was under Danny Cowley where Smith Rowe shone up north, even claiming that the Arsenal wonderkid could “find space in a telephone box”.
Now, Cowley is in charge of Portsmouth, and looks likely to get his hands on another gem from Hale End in Miguel Azeez.
What’s the situation?
As Hampshire Live reveal, the 18-year-old is expected to join Pompey in the coming days on a season-long loan.
Azeez has already made his first-team debut for Arsenal, playing seven minutes of the Europa League clash with Dundalk last season.
He’s a huge prospect, one who has been likened to Barcelona and Spain star Sergio Busquets.
Could Arsenal have Emile Smith Rowe 2.0 on their hands?
Smith Rowe is now one of Arsenal’s most important players, just a couple of years after his fruitful time at Huddersfield with Cowley.
In that respect, you can see why the Gunners have handed Cowley another of their prospects to develop.
Arsenal will hope that Cowley does whatever he did with Smith Rowe, and we see no reason why history can’t repeat itself.
The Portsmouth boss is a fine manager, who can clearly work with young talents to great effect.
When Azeez returns to north London, only then will we see if Arsenal have another Smith Rowe on their hands – the signs are certainly promising.
