Arsenal have been strongly linked with Wilfried Zaha in recent weeks. But the Gunners are struggling to put together a financial package which would prise him away from Crystal Palace.
According to Sky Sports News, Arsenal have £70m available and have launched a £40m bid for Zaha but Crystal Palace want £80m for their star man.
Arsenal are struggling to fund this deal and they must now consider alternative options. That means that they either need to find a new winger target or they need to try a different approach in negotiations with Palace.
Back in March, Arsenal wanted to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka. And according to a report by The Sun at the time, the North London club were ready to include some players in a swap deal.
Reiss Nelson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles were both mentioned in this report. And Crystal Palace also want £5m-rated defender Carl Jenkinson to replace Wan-Bissaka (The Sun).
Perhaps it is time for Arsenal to explore this option again. They can drive down Zaha’s asking price if they can include one or more players in the deal.
Arsenal clearly want the 26-year-old to take them forward next season and have prioritised a move for him. This is why a swap deal makes sense for the Gunners.
